the essence of being

Drawing forms an important part of my practice. It allows me time to be still and absorb; see, think, see. Through the process of drawing albeit a small sketch or a large charcoal drawing, I begin to understand what I wish to convey and to capture. Perhaps the history of place, a moment in time, otherness and beyond the immediate.

As a means to further distill the image from its original source as if to unravel some hidden mystery I explore other artistic mediums. Ink, pastel, printmaking, chalks, and watercolours are used singularly or combined. Acting as a bridge between drawing and painting they are explored for their own idiosyncratic range of marks and poetic uncertainty.

Painting is explored for all its forms for the use of colour and mark. Continuing with inspiration from nature, my paintings hover between figurative and abstraction offering the viewer the opportunity to explore their own interpretation and inner landscape.
